Dak Galbi can refer to two distinct dishes – the first is one involves cooking chicken breast and legs marinated with a spicy sauce together with a variety of vegetables including cabbage and carrot, as well as rice cakes all on a huge hot plate. The second refers to marinated chicken strips cooked over a charcoal fire (Sutbul Dak Galbi)
Dak Galbi can be served by choosing two choices of chicken: boneless chicken (chicken thigh meat) or regular chicken (wings and ribs). When you’re finished eating, you can have the choice of adding either fried rice (bab) or stir-fried noodles (sari) to the plate and mixing it with all the spicy goodness that was left over. Afterwards, Makguksu (Buckwheat Cold Noodles) or Naengmyeon (Cold Korean Noodles) can be eaten to finish the whole experience.
